Venue

The Iberian Strings 2018 will take place at the Science Faculty of the University of Granada, more precisely in the Sala Eniac (Salón de Grados del Mecenas) of the Mecenas Building (Edificio Mecenas), at the back of the main building of the Faculty.

The Mecenas Building can be reached directly from the street, or entering the Science Faculty through the main entrance, crossing the Faculty entirely and leaving thebuiling at the back entrance.  The Mecenas Building is then just across the street.

Accommodation

Participants are expected to book their own accomodation. We have reserved a number of rooms in the Hotel Granada Center (****, 65€ single room & breakfast), just in front of the Science Faculty and in the Hotel ABBA Granada (****, 70€ single room & breakfast).  Bookings can be made via this website until January 7th, 2018.

Lunch & Conference Dinner

Lunch can be taken at the cafeteria of the Science Faculty (4,50 euros), the University Mensa (Comedores Universitarios, 6 euros) or in the many restaurants and bars in the surroundings of the Science Faculty, offering menus (9 – 15 euros), tapas and a variety of specialities.

The Conference Dinner will take place at the restaurant La Pataleta (number 3 on the map), on Thursday night at 20:30.  The dinner will cost 40 euros (30 euros for vegetarian menu). If you participate in the dinner, please pay the amount upon arrival at the registration.

Getting to Granada

Flying directly to Granada

There are flights to Granada Airport from Madrid, Barcelona and London. To contact Granada Airport: Telf +34 958245223 – www.aena.es. Granada airport is 12km from the city centre. On arrival the best way to reach the centre is the bus service which takes you to the centre of Granada. The bus times tie in with all the flights. The ticket costs around 3 € and you can buy it directly on the bus. The bus stops nearest to the Science Faculty are the train station and Jardines del Triunfo, about 5 minutes walk from the Faculty.  If you prefer taking a taxi, prices from the airport to the city centre are around 28 €.

Flying to Málaga

Málaga is the nearest big international airport to Granada (just 130 km) and there are plenty of flights (more than 70 international destinations). It takes around 90 minutes to get from Málaga to Granada by road. To contact Málaga Airport: Telf +34 913211000 – www.aena.es

Getting from Málaga by bus

There are six daily buses that connect Málaga airport to Granada bus station, with a brief stop at Málaga bus station. The ticket costs between 11 and 14 €. If your flight arrives at a different time, you can take a bus or a taxi to Málaga bus station (Estación de Autobuses) and catch one of the buses to Granada that run approx. every hour from 7:00 until 22:00. The price is around 10 €  and it takes 1 hour and a half. The bus that connects Málaga airport with Málaga bus station is Line A. The single fare is 2 € and you can buy the ticket on the bus. The journey takes about 20 minutes. The bus stop is on the arrivals forecourt of Terminal 3 and the buses run every 30 minutes from 7:00 to 24:00. Note that bus connections between Málaga a Granada stop at 22:00. You can buy bus tickets both from Málaga airport and from Málaga bus station to Granada online at www.alsa.es. You also can check times and prices, and even choose your seats. A taxi from Málaga to Granada costs around 160 €.

Getting from Madrid by bus

From the Madrid bus station (Estación Sur, Mendez Alvaro), there are buses to Granada every hour approx. Among those, there are several  V.I.P. (Premium) non stop buses giving a high quality service, comfort and faster trip. Again, you can see the timetables, check the prices (19-43 € one way), buy the tickets and even chose your seats on  www.alsa.es.

Granada bus station is slightly out of town, but the recently opened metro line will bring you in about 10 minutes to the metro stop Universidad, in the inmmediate surroundings of the Science Faculty. Other alternatives to get to the centre are the frequently passing buss or taxis.

Getting from Madrid by train

Trains from Madrid to Granada leave from Atocha station and take around 4 hours (60-100€ return ticket). Please, notice that due to works on the railroad tracks, the last part of the trip (Antequera-Granada, ~80min) is currently being served by bus (included in the train ticket).

The train station is located right in the center of Granada, at 5 minutes walk from the Science Faculty.
